KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Political affairs experts believe that US Peace Envoy for Afghanistaninfo-icon Zalmay Khalilzad blamed Daesh for recent terrorist attacks in Kabul in order to keep on track the ongoing peace parleys with the Talibaninfo-icon.

Armed men stormed a maternity hospital in Kabul and a funeral congregation in Nangarhar on May 12th in which 41 people were killed and 88 others injured.

Afghan government blamed the Taliban for the attacks, a claim the Taliban categorically rejected, while Khalilzad blamed Daesh for the deadly attacks.

He said Daesh was against the Taliban and US peace agreement and strived to begin sectarian violence and civil war in Afghanistan, the way the outlawed group tried in Iraq and Syria.

Political affairs experts, however, shared different views.

Political Affairs Expert Wadir Safi said Khalilzad accused Daesh for the attacks in order to protect the peace agreement with the Taliban and make sure no hurdle was threatening the process.

He said the US wanted both the Taliban and Daesh to take steps for the eradication of Daesh.

Safi said both Daesh and the Taliban were armed opponents of Afghan government and tried to accuse the Taliban over the massacre of Afghans. This will pressurize the Taliban and forced them to join intra-Afghan talks.

Political Affairs Expert Younis Fakor believed difference of opinion on the recent terrorist attacks was due to the disagreement between Afghan government and US envoy.

He said prisoners release, ceasefire and the pull out of US forces from Afghanistan were points of disagreement between the two sides in the US, Taliban agreement.

He added the US rushed to signed the agreement with the Taliban instead of considering the interest of Afghan government and now the US tried to implement the agreement.

“Taliban have nothing apart from attacks and the group wanted to attract government and Afghanistan’s neighbours attention to ensure the implementation of the agreement without any resistance.”

But Political Expert and Analyst Asad Wahid said that government is committed to push back the country to the conflict and war.

“The government was not happy from the start of the peace process, but it agreed due to the pressure from the US. Now when they again got the power they will strive for conflict and sabotage the peace process,” he said.

He said US considered peace agreement with the Taliban an achievement and never wanted to derail it. He said US considered Taliban and government and equal partners.
