Afghanistan’s Covid-19 cases reach 7,653

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): About 581 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally to 7,653, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Tuesday. 

 Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman for the ministry, told a media briefing here that 178 citizens, including four doctors, had died from the pandemic while 850 Afghans recovered so far.

The new cases surfaced in Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh, Herat, Laghman, Paktia, Samangan, Ghazni, Kunar, Sar-i-Pul, Badghis, Takhar, Panjsher, Baghlan, Kunduz, Parwan, Paktika, Khost, Badakhshan, Daikundi and Maidan Wardak provinces.

The official said 165 of the fresh cases were detected in Kabul, 134 in Nangarhar, 55 in Balkh, 38 in Herat, 30 in Laghman, 29 in Paktia, 23 in Samangan, 21 in Ghazni, 16 in Kunar, 15 in Sar-i-Pul, 13 in Badghis, 12 in Takhar, nine in Panjsher, five in Baghlan, four each in Kunduz and Parwan, three in Paktika, two in Khost and one each in Badakhshan, Daikundi and Maidan Wardak.

Mayar asked people to pay greater attention to adopting preventive measures and acting on the guidelines from the ministry. “There is no vaccine yet to cure the virus.”

Figures from MoPH show 2,231 cases have been reported in Kabul, 1,248 in Herat, 636 in Kandahar, 589 in Balkh, 444 in Nangarhar, 337 in Paktia, 182 in Takhar, 157 in Samangan, 153 in Laghman, 143 in Ghazni, 141 in Baghlan, 132 in Logar, 116 in Maidan Wardak, 106 in Badghis, 102 in Jawzjan, 97 in Panjsher, 91 in Kunar, 80 in Kuduz, 72 in Parwan, 63 in Nimroz, 54 in Sar-i-Pul, 53 in Paktia, 51 in Faryab, 46 in Khost, 45 in Helmand, 44 in Ghorinfo-icon, 39 in Farah and 37 in Bamyan.

Similarly, 38 cases have surfaced in Zabul, 34 in Kapisa, 22 in Daikundi, 17 in Badakhshan, five in Uruzgan and four in Nuristan.

On the other hand, the number of coronavirus-related deaths around the world has reached 320,000, with nearly 5 million individuals infected with the disease, news reports say.
