Government strategy to fight coronavirus failed: Dr. Wahaj

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Wahaj Hospital Head Dr.Mohammad Hashim Wahaj on Wednesday blamed the government for its failure in the fight against the coronavirus.

Addressing reporters here Dr. Wahaj said $10 million had been spent on combating the coronavirus in the country until now but the result of these efforts was not satisfactory.

Referring to the government lack of capability to handle coronavirus, he said: “The Presidential Palace was acting according to its own plan, the Interior Ministry has its own plan, Municipality has its own plan and Ulmea have their own plan.

He criticized government's willingness to fight the coronavirus, and said, that the government had lost credibility with the international community.

Dr. Wahaj said he prepared a plan for fight coronavirus and dispatched it to several government institutions but he still awaited response from them.

The plan is comprise of four articles, one the formation of a National Commission on Combatting Coronavirus, second the diagnosing of suspected and non-suspected persons, third testing for the purpose of positive and negative result, fourth allowing private sector hospitals to carry out the tests and use of special safety uniform by medical staff.

Healthinfo-icon Ministry, private health sector, security institutions, governors, ulemainfo-icon, Afghan Red Crescent Societyinfo-icon, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, parliament, civil society and media should be part of the commission.

Wahidullah Mayar, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, in a press conference confirmed receiving anti-coronavirus plan from Dr. Wahaj and added the plan was being reviewed.
