PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Two documentaries on the Afghanistaninfo-icon conflict have won two silver awards at Germany’s Worldinfo-icon Media Festivals, Gulf News reports.

Pakistani filmmaker Shehzad Hameed Ahmad’s documentary series are focused on human suffering triggered by the war in Afghanistan, the newspaper said on Tuesday.

‘Caught in the Crossfire’ and ‘The Battle for Kabulinfo-icon’ won the awards in Global Issues and Political categories. The awards were announced online as the ceremony was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Ahmad said the time he spent in Afghanistan chronicling the war was heartbreaking. The movie-maker and his team spent 15 days in the country, travelling to Bagram airbase, Ghazni and Kabul to film the documentary.

Ahmad told Gulf News: “From boarding the plane to Kabul, where I was joined by young, tattooed American troops sitting beside me, discussing money issues at home, to the Humvees and Chinooks that greeted me upon landing at the tarmac...”

Recalling one of the most excruciating memories, Ahmad said, “I won’t ever forget Samim Faramarz, an Afghan journalist who was blown away while doing live TV coverage. I dedicate this award to Faramarz and to all those journalists working in hostile areas.”
