GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Some Municipality officials and villagers elders in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province have distributed bread among undeserving people, Pajhwok Afghan News learned on Wednesday.

A watch maker Khan Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News municipality officials and village elders had sold out cards of free bread among well-off people.

“Poor people have been ignored from free bread process, the deive is not transparent cards of free bread sold by municipality officials on 500 to 1,000 afghanis,” he said.

  Iqbal, the resident of Askari Famili area talked about corruption in the free bread distribution process and said village elders wrote the names of some well-off persons for the free bread process and they are not aware. The elders shifted the bread to their own houses.

According to Iqbal three percent people are not benefited from government free bread distribution drive.

Gardez Mayor Esmtaullah Khalid acknowledged corruption, irregularities and missing of free bread cards and added efforts are on to bring together all lists and analyze them.

He said village elders, civil societyinfo-icon activist, and prayer leaders did not cooperate properly with municipality in the preparation of lists.

Currently, 73 bakeries, distributed 130,000 free bread among poor people in Gardez.
