KBAUL (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon’s supreme leader Mullahinfo-icon Haibatullah Akhund has called the Doha agreement as a victory, asking the United States not to let anyone scuttle the deal.

In a message ahead of Eidul Fitr, Haibatullah greeted Afghans on the upcoming festival and spelled out his stance on recent developments in the country.

He reaffirmed Taliban’s commitment to the agreement with the US and urged the other side to honour its pledges and not to allow the opportunity to fizzle out.

“Implementation of this agreement can prove to be a powerful instrument for bringing an end to the war between America and our country and for establishing peace and an Islamic system in our homeland.”

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid released Haibatullah’s message, which said the militant group had expanded its political ties with the worldinfo-icon and regional countries.

Taliban’s position had become clearer to the world, contributing to confidence-building, he said in the Eid message, which offered assurances the fighters did not seek monopoly over power and would respect the rights of all Afghans.

Haibatullah asked the US not to allow anyone to delay, halt and scuttle the internationally accepted agreement between the two sides.

He called on humanitarian organisations, charities and individuals to take steps to secure the release of Taliban prisoners in government prisons.

Haibatullah expressed serious concern over civilian casualties in the country, saying he had formed a special commission to ensure civilians were not harmed in the fighting.

Haibatullah claimed that civilians homes were repeatedly bombed, attacked and raided by the other side -- a heinous act that must be stopped.

He said the coronavirus was a pandemic and hoped God would protect Muslims. Taliban’s healthinfo-icon panel has been tasked to control the disease, provide health facilities to the people and advise them to protect themselves.
