KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon Political Office has welcomed Afghan government decision to free 2,000 Taliban prisoners and stressed over completion of prisoners release process.

President Ashraf Ghani after Eid prayers on Sunday announced the resumption of prisoners release process and announced releasing 2,000 Taliban inmates.

Earlier, the Taliban announced three-day ceasefire during Eid-ul-Fitr which was reciprocated by government.

On his twitter page, the Taliban Qatar Office Spokesperson Suhail Shaheen welcomed the release of 2,000 Taliban prisoners and termed it a positive move.

“Release of 2000 prisoners by the other side is a good step. The stipulation in Doha Agreement for release of 5000 prisoners was to create a conducive atmosphere of confidence. This process should be completed in order to remove hurdles in the way of commencement of intra-Afghan negotiations and to pave the way for further progress which is to follow. The Islamic Emirate is committed to release of prisoners on its own part,” said Shaheen.
