NATO renew security, financial commitment to Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon Allies and partners have re-affirmed their commitment through its Train, Advise, Assist Resolute Support Mission and funds – to support ongoing efforts towards lasting peace and long-term security in Afghanistaninfo-icon, according to a statement on Thursday.

The assurances were made by NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană during a teleconference meeting of international donors on Afghanistan, chaired by Hartwig Schafer, the Worldinfo-icon Bank’s Vice President for the South Asia Region.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on the different strands of assistance to Afghanistan, a statement from NATO said.

“The NATO Deputy Secretary General highlighted the importance of close consultation and coordination amongst different members of the international community with regard to our continued support to Afghanistan.”

He re-stressed that NATO welcomed the decision taken by Afghanistan’s political leaders to resolve their differences and form an inclusive government, as well as the recently held cease-fire over Eid-ul Fitr.

NATO Allies and partners have re-affirmed their committed – through its Train, Advise, Assist Resolute Support Mission and funds – to support ongoing efforts towards lasting peace and long-term security in Afghanistan.

Today’s meeting was also attended by  Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, Acting Minister of Finance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as by representatives of NATO Allies and partners, and of other international organizations, including the European Union, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank.
