KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Australia will play their inaugural Test match against Afghanistaninfo-icon in Perth from November 21 to 25, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday.

The long-awaited inaugural Test between the two sides, which had been under threat from the Covid-19 outbreak, will be a day/night affair, according to a statement from ICC.

Earlier in the month, Afghanistan had urged Cricket Australia to prioritise promoting the game and voiced their optimism the historic match would go ahead next summer.

The worldinfo-icon cricket's newest Test-playing nation has been a forgotten team in discussions over a coronavirus-safe 2020/21 schedule.

“This Test match can take place between the two sides," Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chief executive Lutfullah Stanikzai told the Herald in mid-May.

Australia will also play four Tests against India. With the first scheduled to begin on December 3 in Brisbane. The second Test (11-15 December) will be a day/night affair at the Adelaide Oval.

The third match (26-30 December) and fourth (3-7 January) will be played at the MCG and SCG, respectively.
