KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghan government on Friday released 164 prisoners of Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA), an official said.

Ziaul Haq Amarkehel, head of a joint HIA and Government Commission said 164 HIA prisoners were released.

The prisoners were freed from Pul-i-Charkhi and Bagram prisoners in line with Afghan government and HIA peace pact.

Amarkhel thanked President Ashraf Ghani for giving clear direction regarding the release for prisoners.

He also hailed efforts of National Security Council Advisor Hamdaullah Mohib and concerned authorities for the contribution in the release of these prisoners.

HIA Spokesperson Fazal Ghani Haqmal said government pledged the release of 425 prisoners after Eid-ul-Fitr.
