Covid-19 fatalities, infections on the rise in Pakistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Friday was the deadliest day for Pakistaninfo-icon as 96 people lost their loves to the coronavirus and 2,363 others were infected, officials said.

Twenty-nine of the fatalities, including four doctors, occurred in Punjab, 31 in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four in Islamabad and 19 in Balochistan.

Dr Zafar Mirza, the prime minister's advisor on healthinfo-icon, said a record 2,636 cases -- the highest number recorded in single a day, had been registered across the country.

He told journalists: "During the last 24 hours, we saw 2,636 cases and 64 deaths. It is a big number and so far is the maximum we have seen in a 24 hour period."

Of the 64,000 confirmed cases, approximately 35 percent of infected individuals in Pakistan have completely recovered from the pandemic.

With the number of patients on ventilators also growing, the official acknowledged the Covid-19 situation was worsening. He warned of a further rise in infections and deaths.
