KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 680 new positive coronavirus cases were registered in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said Sunday.

The new cases were confirmed among 1,112 suspected patients during this period, pushing the nationwide tally to 15,205, said Wahidullah Mayar, MoPH spokesperson.

He said the last 24 hours saw 25 patients recovering from Coronavirus and the total number of recovered patients increased to 1,328.

He also announced the death of eight patients from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, saying three people died in Baghlan, two in Herat, two in Kunar and one in Balkh. The death toll from the coronavirus in the country has reached 257.

Majroh, referring to the increasing number of positive cases, said the latest cases included 371 in Kabulinfo-icon and 111 in Herat provinces.

He added in the past 24 hours, 75 people were infected  in Balkh, 33 in Samangan, 22 in Takhar, 21 in Nangarhar, 18 in Laghman, 11 in Baghlan, seven in Logar and six in Kunar.

In Bamyan and Maidan Wardak provinces, two to two people have been infected with the coronavirus in 1 Daikundi province. According to him, the total infections in Afghanistaninfo-icon have reached 15205 people.
