Probe into Wazir Akbar Khan blast starts today

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A six-member delegation, led by Minister of Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs Abdul Hakim Munib, is set to launch a probe into the Wazir Akbar Khan mosqueinfo-icon bombing.

On Tuesday, a heavy explosion shook the Wazir Akbar Khan mosque next to the Green Zone during evening prayers. Two people, including Imaminfo-icon Ayaz Niazai, were killed and three others wounded.

After the bombing, President Ashraf Ghani tasked the delegation with thoroughly investigating the bomb attack on innocent worshippers.

Fazal Mohammad Mohseni, spokesman for the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs, told Pajhwok Afghan News the delegation would hold its first meeting following a probe into the bombing.

“Head of the delegation Hakim Munib, and officials from the Ministry of Interior, National Security Council, National Directorate of Security and Attorney General Office will be attend the meeting,” he added.

The official said it was yet to be ascertained who would participate in the meeting from those organs and details in this regard would be shared later on.

The killing of Niazi was condemned widely, with Munib promising at the funeral ceremony that he would probe the blast in detail and with full attention.
