Afrasiab wins Khushal Khan Khattak Award

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Senior politician, intellectual and poet Afrasiab Khattak has been honoured with the ‘Khushal Khan Khattak Award’ for his poetry collection.

The Pakistaninfo-icon Academy of Letters conferred the coveted award on Khattak for his poetry collection titled ‘Nawai Taigh’ (fresh bud).

Awards and cash were announced for the best poetry and prose books written in Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtoinfo-icon, Balochi, Hindko, Seraiki and English.

Pashto literary circles and fans congratulated Khattak on winning the award. Other poets and writers were also handed the accolades.

The poets and writers would receive a cash award of Rs200,000 each, a statement from the academy said.

Khattak, meanwhile, told Dawn he loved literature since his early age when began composing poems in Pashto.

Unfortunately, the ANP leader said, his political engagements did not allow him to continue with his literary pursuits.

He spokes of his close contact with Pashto literary stalwarts, including Ghani Khan, Qalandar Momand, Dost Mohammad Kamil, Ajmal Khattak and other intellectuals.
