PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The closure of Pakistaninfo-icon’s border with Afghanistaninfo-icon has sparked a protest in the Chaman district of southwestern Balochistan province.

The Durand Lineinfo-icon has been shut since March 2, with the Pakistan government saying the closure was aimed at controlling the spread of the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, traders and representatives of several political parties -- affected by the border closure -- staged the protest in Chaman. A private TV channel reported.

“All bazaars, shopping centres, business establishments and shops remained closed,” SAMAA News said. Vehicles remained off the roads.

The protesters urged the government to reopen the boder crossing and let trade with Afghanistan resume. Many people have lost jobs due to the closure, they said.
