KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs (MoHRA) has backed the Saudi decision on allowing a “very limited” Hajj this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A day after Riyadh announced the decision, MoHRA said the Afghans who were in queue for this year’s hajj would perform the pilgrimage next year.

Only the people already living in the kingdom will be allowed to take part in the annual pilgrimage, according to the Saudi Hajj Ministry.

"It has been decided to hold the pilgrimage this year with very limited numbers ... with different nationalities in the kingdom," the Saudi Press Agency reported.

In a statement, MoHRA said the Saudi government had taken the decision to prevent possible coronavirus infections among the pilgrims. The ministry fully supported the decision.

“We respectfully inform our compatriots that those who are in line for this year’s pilgrimage will perform their hajj next year and their turn will be safe,” the ministry added.
