KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least 21 Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been killed and six others wounded in an airstrike by foreign forces and a clash in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Saturday.

The airstrike occurred in the Siah Sang Dara area of Arghandab district on Friday night, provincial police spokesman Jamal Nasir Barakzai said.

The foreign forces conducted the airstrike in the area where the militants planned attacks on security check-posts, he said, adding 15 fighters were killed and six others wounded.

Weapons and ammunition belonging to the insurgents were also destroyed in the overnight air raid, the official continued.

However, the foreign forces have said nothing about the airstrike -- the second in Kandahar in a month. The Taliban have not yet commented on the raid either.

Separately, the militants attacked a security check-post of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) in Maroof district near the Durand Lineinfo-icon, the police spokesman said.

Barakzai claimed the attack was repulsed as a result of strong resistance from the security personnel. He said at least six insurgents were killed. The security forces suffered no casualties.
