KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Healthinfo-icon (MoPH) on Sunday linked the decline in positive coronavirus cases to people’s cooperation in implementation of precautionary measures.

However, some people said state-run hospitals lost their credibility due to negligence, incompetence and corruption

Health Ministry’s Spokesperson Akmar Samsour said implementation of health guidelines by masses resulted in the decline of positive coronavirus cases in the country.

“One week before Eid-ul-Fitr, people ignored health guidelines defined by the ministry therefore many people infected the respiratory diseases in the coming days.”

“But after Eid, people implemented pre-cautionary measures and as a result the number of coronavirus patents declined now,” Samsour said.

He explained: “In the coming two months, coronavirus cases would further decline but people are still advised to implement health measures in order to control the virus.”

But people believed that corruption in the health sector, giving special attention to well-off people and their families and high ranking government officials while ignoring common people badly damaged public trust over the state machinery.

Fardin, a resident of capital Kabul, said no attention was paid to coronavirus patients in government hospitals until they knew a doctor, offer money or a reference.

“I took my daughter to a state-run hospital but her condition deteriorated due to the lack of attention from doctors and I have to take her to a private hospital where her treatment cost a lot of money,” he said.

Dr. Fatima Aziz, a Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member from Kunduz province, who tested positive for coronavirus, in a video message recently claimed that the government had embezzled the fund donated for combating coronavirus.

Fatima said she went to a state-run hospital for an x-ray but she was unable to do so and then she went to NDSinfo-icon Hospital where she was able to take x-ray with the help of a reference.

She said due to the lack of attention by doctors in public hospitals, patients lost their lives, but nobody was concerned about it.

According to MoPH, a significant drop in number of positive coronavirus cases has been recorded in the country. On June 21, the MoPH announced 460 people tested positive for coronavirus while the least number of positive cases in recent days was 165.

Last month, MoPH tested 1,528 suspected coronavirus cases in which 782 were positive and on June 18, the MoPH tested 1,640 suspected cases in which 793 were positive.
