KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Kremlin has scorned a New York Times report alleging that a Russian intelligence unit offered the Talibaninfo-icon bounties for killing US soldiers in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

A Kremlin spokesman was quoted as saying by Xinhua: "Once again, we can only express regret that one of the largest, reputable and high-quality media outlets has been increasingly publishing elaborate hoaxes in recent years."

Dmitry Peskov told a daily media briefing in Moscow the NYT report was far from true and tended to ignore Russia’s cooperation with the US on the Afghan reconciliation drive.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump cast doubt on the alleged Russian bounties and said he was never briefed on the issue. US spies informed the president the information was not credible.
