US envoy, Qatar officials discuss Afghan projects

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad has held discussions with Qatar Investment Authority and Qatar Fund officials on Afghan projects and investment.

In a series of tweets, the diplomat said: “CEO of US Development Finance Cooperation Adam Boehler and I have concluded a meeting in Doha with QIA and Qatar found.”

The ambassador added they discussed the possibility of co-investing in Afghan projects to consolidate peace and unlock regional prosperity. The potential to amplify investment impact in Afghanistaninfo-icon with like-minded partners is real.”

In a meeting with Talibaninfo-icon representatives, he underscored economic development opportunities that would follow a sustainable peace in the country.

The envoy wrote they agreed on developing plans in support of peace could never start too early, assuming the two sides could overcome final hurdles on the path to intra-Afghan negotiations.

Mullahinfo-icon Baradar and his team were engaged and the Taliban recognised all Afghans would have to make compromises in order to draw in the required investment in Afghanistan’s future, Khalilzad added.
