KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan government will make a final decision on the remaining Talibaninfo-icon prisoners after an all-out probe, the Presidential Palace said Sunday.

According to Feb. 29 peace agreement between the United States and Taliban, the Afghan government would release 5,000 Taliban prisoners and the group would release 1,000 government prisoners.

The government has so far released around 4,000 Taliban prisoners and the Taliban nearly 7,000 government inmates.

However, the Afghan government says civilians were freed among government forces.

Presidential Spokesman Sidiq Sidiqi said that the government would make a final decision about remaining prisoners after a multilateral investigation.

Sidiqi tweeted that the government was committed to the start of intra-Afghan talks but it also gave priority to the release of security forces by Taliban.

He said: “The Afghan government is committed to starting the intra-Afghan talks in order to put the conflict to an end and establish peace and prosperity but release of security forces in Taliban captivity is also important to Afghans.”

During an interview with National Radio Television last week, President Ashraf Ghani said that the draft of Taliban prisoners release would be completed this Thursday.
