Jawzjan couple encourages women to join police force

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The only policewoman serving in the operational police unit in northern Jawzjan province asked families not to stop their daughters from serving in police.

Sajeda, 26, the resident of Shiberghan City, is the only female officer serving in Jawzjan operational police unit.

She is married and her husband is a policeman, they have one child as well.

During a special interview with Pajhwok Afghan News she said: “From my childhood, I was interested in to serve in military. When I grew up the pain though which the womeninfo-icon of this country are going through forced me to wear military uniform.”

When asked how she joined police, she said: “During one of operations, my husband saw women sheltered in a corner and no one wanted to touch her due to the strict custom laws. He tried to get her up and this my husband thought that I have to serve.”

On the bases of her interest with military, she said: “I accepted the offer of my husband to serve in police and after six month training she was recognized as policewoman.”

“Now I know how to use weapon and take part in operations,” she said.

When Sajeda clad in the police uniform, take weapon she feel the pride and think that women could serve for the defence of the country.

She believed over the presence of women in police and military and said: “With the presence of women service-members our security forces have strengthen and acted successfully.”

She believed that during special operations, complete success could be achieved without the effective presence of women service-members.

Sajeda said the only wish of her was to establishment of peace in the country so that everyone could live in peace.

Waheed Wesal, the husband of Sajeda, said that alongside her wife he had been working for the establishment of peace in the country.

He said: “Challenges and limitations during operations forced me to encourage my wife to join police.”

“I remember that during one of the operations, a woman was sitting at a corner and our traditions did not allow us to touch her so I decided to encourage my wife to join police,” he said.

Police Spokesperson Masoud Nadeem said currently at least 70 policewomen served in the department in different positions.

He added the presence of policewomen facilitated police during their operations especially when they conduct operations against criminals, drug traffickers the presence of police women is crucial.
