KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): An important Islamic bloc has urged all Afghan groups to exercise maximum possible restraint to achieve a sustainable ceasefire in their country.

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen stressed the need for greater focus on peace efforts and reduction in violence.

In a statement, quoted by Radio Pakistaninfo-icon, he called on all Afghans to redouble their efforts to achieve lasting peace and reconciliation in the country.

The OIC chief issued the call on the eve of an international conference in Kabul on the peace and reconciliation process in the war-devastated country.

He deplored all acts of violence and urged the parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, and strive for long-awaited peace.

He renewed support for the Afghan-led process in line with resolutions and declarations adopted at the International Ulemainfo-icon Conference, held in Makkah in July 2018, and the 14th OIC Summit on in May this year.

He hoped ongoing peace efforts would bring security and stability for people’s well-being, prosperity and development of Afghanistaninfo-icon. He reiterated the firm commitment of the OIC to standing by the people of Afghanistan.
