KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): People from western provinces Monday complained their political rights were violated and their participation in government national process remained trivial.

People’s representatives from the Western Zone encompassing Herat, Badghis, Farah, Ghorinfo-icon and Nimroz provinces erected a protest tent in front of the Parliament building.  Some lawmakers from Western Zone also joined them during media talk and demanded their political rights.

Farooq Majroh, a lawmaker from Herat province, said the presence of people in the Western Zone in politics and government was lukewarm.

He said in line with the country’s constitution, all Afghans should be part of the political system and cadres from every province should be provided opportunity to serve.

Abdul NaseerFarahi, a lawmaker from Farah province, said even five percent people of the Western Zone did not have presence in the government machinery at a time when 50 percent revenue of the country was collected from the West.

He demanded the youth of Western Zone to be offered opportunity in the system and said: “The people of Western Zone would make their own decision this time if President Ghani and Abdullah fail to implement their pledges made during election.”

Farida Hameedi, a lawmaker from Nimroz province, said: “We need to get our rights, both teams got full political advantage from the Western Zone and now they should serve the people.”

Abdul Khaleq, head of the Western Zone Leadership Council, said: “Our protest tent will be here until the people of Western Zone get their political rights and this process will be extended to other provinces with every passing day. If our voices are not heard, we will use other legal options to get our rights.”

The council also issues a resolution asking the country’s leadership to provide opportunities to the cadres of their zone in every government department.
