Iran’s railway track to boost regional connectivity

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A railway track from Chabahar Port to Central Asia will extend Afghanistaninfo-icon’s connectivity in the region, an Iranian official said on Wednesday

Khairullah Khademi, deputy Urban Affairs Minister, told media persons during the inauguration of the railway track construction project, that the track would connect Iran through Chabahar Port with Afghanistan and then Central Asia.

The Iranian minister said the 628-kilometre railway track would go through Zahidan, Pirjan and Mashad provinces to reach Afghanistan.

Khademi said the railway track project was a long-term project which would be implemented despite economic sanctions against Iran.

He added 150 kilomtres of the railway track would be constructed during the ongoing solar yearinfo-icon.

Passenger bogies would travel at 160 kilometres per hour while cargo bodies would be traveling at 120 kilomtres per hour on the track.

He said economic engagements between Iran, India and Afghanistan would be strengthened through this railway track.
