PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Kabulinfo-icon-Mazar-i-Sharif highway was closed for traffic on Saturday following a clash between security forces and Talibaninfo-icon insurgents in northern Baghlan province.

Nazeer Najam, the Baghlan governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants attacked security forces in Danad-i-Ghori area this morning.

As a result, the security forces closed the highway for few hours against traffic to protect civilians, he said.

Najam said both sides suffered casualties, but exact figures were not yet known.

Police spokesman Ahmad Javed Basharat confirmed the clash erupted between security forces and Taliban in Dand-i-Ghori area.

Without providing details, he said the highway had been closed for traffic.

Sher Alam, a driver, said they waited for five hours on the highway due to the clash. “Police told us the highway would remain closed until the clash is ended,” he added.
