AGO grills its 38 officials over corruption

Jul 14, 2020 - 17:09

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Office (AGO) on Tuesday announced investigating its 38 officials over corruption allegations last year and arrested 31 of them.

In a statement, the AGO said the detainees included attorney office chiefs, prosecutors and workers accused of corruption and bribery.

The statement said fighting corruption remained the AGO top priority as it established a department named “General Directorate of Control and Observation of Prosecutor’s Office” in 2012 to address related complaints.

Corruption in central and provincial departments of the AGO should be investigated.

The statement said 38 cases of bribery and corruption have been investigated during the past one year and recognized some prosecutors and heads accused of embezzlement and corruption.

It added the AGO also investigated and registered 28 other cases and sent them back to the relevant offices and arrested 39 officials regarding the cases.

According to the statement, 11 other individuals were also arrested accused of corruption during the first three months of this ongoing year.
