Afghanistan’s coronavirus cases soar to 35,070

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Seventy-six new positive Covid-19 cases have been detected in different parts of the country over the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s overall tally to 35,070.

A statement from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said 418 individuals underwent testing during the period and 76 of them were diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Herat recorded 16 new cases while Farah saw 10 more infections. A least  eight fresh cases were registered in Badghis,  seven in Balkh, five each in Kabul and Daikundi.

Four cases surfaced each in Ghazni, Baghlan and Kunduz, three in Kandahar, two each in Takhar, Badakhshan, Bamyan and Kunar and one each in Panjsher and Helmand.

At least 21 people lost their lives to the pandemic while 425 others recovered from it in the past 24 hours. The number of deaths thus reached 1,115. As many as 22,881 people have recovered from the disease so far.

The Ministry of Public Health called on the people to follow medical instructions and guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
