Takhar: 4 killed as residents, Taliban clash

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): At least four civilians were killed and another 10 wounded in a clash with Talibaninfo-icon militants in northeastern Takhar province on Tuesday morning, an official said.

Khwaja Ghar district’s administrative chief Mohammad Omar told Pajhwok Afghan News people attacked a Taliban jail in Darul Ulum area of the district this morning

He said, “Two weeks back, three militants attempted to sexually abuse two sisters in the same area but one of the girls managed to escape and the second was gang-raped in front of her father.”

He said the perpetrators of the incident were arrested by the Taliban and kept them in their jail and today residents wanted to punish the alleged rapists.

However, a clash erupted between the Taliban and people who tried to pullet out the prisoners and give them punishment.

He said three civilians were killed and 10 others wounded in the battle.

But another resident, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok that four people were killed and another 10 wounded in the clash.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the perpetrators did not belong to their group.

He said the Taliban arrested the accused who would be produced before a Taliban court soon. He said the incident resulted from a personal dispute.

Due to lack of mobile signals in the area which under control of Taliban, a contact with the victim family could not be established
