KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Former prison director for eastern Nangarhar province has been introduced to the Attorney General Office following Sunday’s car bombing attack, an official said Wednesday.

Farhad Bayanie, spokesman for the Department of Prison Affairs, wrote on his twitter account that Abdul Wali Hesrak, ex-Nangarhar main jail director, has been introduced the AGO and replaced by Col. Saleh Mohammad Shirzai as  new director.

According to him, Hesark will be investigated whether he committed negligence in duty.

The brazen attack on the prison in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, was staged by 11 Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) rebels on Sunday night, with fierce fighting stretching to Monday afternoon.

Officials say, 73 people, including 21 military personnel and some prisoners, suffered causalities in the attack that lasted 18 hours.

First a car bombing happened at the entrance to the prison gate shortly after 6:30pm on Sunday before gunmen entered the compound and opened intense fire, followed by heavy fighting.

Around 100 Daesh and Taliban prisoners were among those escaped from the central jail in Nangarhar province during the protracted coordinated attack.
