Loya jirga illegal in Parliament presence: Rahmani

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon speaker on Wednesday said convening a consultative Loya Jirgainfo-icon in presence of the parliament was against the law.

On the first day of Eidul Adah, President Ashraf Ghani suggested convening the Loya Jirga to decide the fate of 400 prisoners on a Taliban list handed to his administration.

The Loya Jirga is convened on upcoming Friday August 7. The gathering may last three to five days.

In a statement, the MoF said that Afghanistan hosted two events to strengthen regional and global consensus on the peace process on Tuesday.

A statement from the Wolesi Jirga speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that Rahmani along with the house administrative board held a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani and exchanged their views over the upcoming consultative Loya Jirga.

The statement said two deputies of president, peace negotiations team and state ministers for peace and parliamentary affairs were also present at the meeting.

According to the statement, the president said in addition to discussing and agreeing on views of people and their representatives on peace, the Loya Jirga will also decide on important national issues.

Meanwhile, Rahmani said in presence of the people’s representatives in the National Assembly, convening a Loya Jirga was against the law.

The grand assembly of tribal elders, government officials and public representatives will be held on Friday to decide the fate of the 400 reamining Talibaninfo-icon prisoners.
