NATO stresses prompt start to intra-Afghan talks

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon Senior Civilian Representative (SCR) for Afghanistaninfo-icon Stefano Pontecorvo on Wednesday called for a prompt start to intra-Afghan talks, assuring the alliance’s continued support with Afghan security forces.

NATO SCR media office said SCR Stefano expressed the view during a trip to Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.

The top NATO diplomat held meeting with the alliance local military officials and discussed security issues.

Stefano also held meetings with the governors of Kunduz and Balkh provinces and discussed different issues with them.

He welcomed the recent ceasefire during Eid holidays and stressed that urgent steps should be taken for resumption of intra-Afghan talks.

Stefano assured NATO continued support with Afghan security forces and condemned recent attack on Jalalabad prison.

He hailed the bravery of Afghan forces and added that Afghans should be proud of their troops.
