KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Seven fuel tankers were hijacked and two others torched near Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province on Thursday morning, security officials said.

Unidentified gunmen set alight two fuel trucks on the Baghlan-Samangan highway in Bagh-e-Shamal area and hijacked seven others to Dahna-e-Ghori district, a private TV channel reported.

Tolo News quoted security officials as saying that anti-government elements were involved in the incident. However, no rebel group has so far claimed responsibility.

The Talibaninfo-icon have lately stepped up attacks in Baghlan, particularly on security checkpoints, the news channel said.

A day earlier, a dozen people close to Mahbubullah Ghafari, a former member of the provincial council, were killed in a roadside bombing.
