PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A senior Pakhtun nationalist leader has called for evolving consensus on the peace process in neighbouring Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan also asked Pakistaninfo-icon government to lend all-out support to efforts for stabilising Afghanistan.

At a meeting with outgoing Afghan Ambassador Shukrullah Atif Mashal at Wali Bagh in Charsadda district on Saturday, he tied the success of peace talks to the Loya Jirgainfo-icon building consensus on the issue.

ANP secretary-general Mian Iftikhar Hussain, former chief minister Haider Khan Hoti, Aimal Wali Khan and others were also present on the occasion.

All the stakeholders must play their role in bringing peace to Afghanistan, which has seen bloodshed over the last four decades, the ANP chief stressed.

Cordial and cooperative relations between Islamabad and Kabulinfo-icon would help bring stability to the region, he believed, saying the Afghans should be allowed to decide their fate themselves.

Asfandyar Wali suggested the US, China and Russia should guarantee the restoration of peace to Afghanistan. Peace and stability would pave the ground for the region’s development and prosperity.

For his part, Mashal thanked the ANP leadership for supporting the Afghan peace talks. He hoped the party would continue to back his country.
