KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The three-day Consultative Loya Jirgainfo-icon, convened to decide the fate of the remaining Talibaninfo-icon prisoners, concluded here on Sunday.

On the concluding day, the grand tribal gathering issued a resolution, approving the release of the 400 Taliban prisoners who, the government says are involved in heinous crime.

The resolution says the decision was aimed at ensuring a quick start to the intra-Afghan talks and bringing about a ceasefire and an end to the ongoing conflict.

As the massive tribal assembly issued the 25-article resolution, President Ashraf Ghani, his predecessor Hamid Karzai and other political figures urged the Taliban to an immediately enter into the intra-Afghan talks.

In the widely-expected resolution, participants of the Loya Jirga supported lasting peace with dignity, and called for stability in the country.

It reads any foreign fighters among the 400 Taliban prisoners must be handed over to their respective countries based on valid guarantee.

It said the release of the remaining Taliban prisoners must come with the assurance that the direct talks between the government and the militant movement will begin “without any excuses.”

While calling for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, the resolution asked the International community and the Unites States to honour commitments in this regard.

It said the people and the government of Afghanistaninfo-icon must be assured that the released Taliban prisoners would not return to war and their activity would be monitored.

The resolution asked the global fraternity to cease direct and indirect interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and to withdraw support to terrorist groups.

The jirgainfo-icon urged the Taliban and the Afghan government to put a stop to violence and conflict in the country and to resolve differences through negotiations.

It stressed Islamic values, the role of scholars, basic government institutions, democracy and gains of the past two decades must be preserved.

The resolution states the Loya Jirga members believe that womeninfo-icon, half of the Afghan societyinfo-icon, should have a legal and political status and play a constructive role at all stages of the process.

It adds the Loya Jirga members believe the Constitution is a national guarantee which must be preserved. If necessary, the basic law could be amended in line with the mechanism within it.

The resolution calls the Afghan security forces the guardians of national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. They must be supported and strengthened.
