PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Five people were killed in a powerful explosion in the Chaman town of southwestern Balochistan province near the Durand Lineinfo-icon on Monday.

Another 20 people were wounded, some seriously, in the blast on the Mall Road, Assistant Commissioner Zakaullah Durrani told reporters.

The injured were evacuated to the Chaman Civil Hospital, where some are said to be struggling for life, medics said.

The blast resulted from an improvised explosive device attached to a motorbike that was parked on the road, a local police official said.

The apparent target of the blast was a vehicle of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), according to the assistant commissioner, who stopped short of giving details.

Window panes in nearby shops and houses were shattered due to the impact of the bombing, Dawn TV reported, showing footage of the site.

A sensitive district of Balochistan, Chaman borders the Spin Boldak town of Afghanistaninfo-icon's southern Kandahar province.
