Coronavirus cases jump to 20m worldwide

KABUL (Pajhwok): About 20 million people have been infected with Covid-19 worldwide, statistics from a US-based university suggest.

After emerging in the Wuhan city of China last December, the coronavirus pandemic has spread to at least 210 countries around the globe.

In the first months, mostly Chinese citizens were infected and killed by the disease, which has now been controlled by China. But it is spreading rapidly in Europe and America.

According to data from the Johns Hopkins University, at least 20 million people have been infected with Covid-19 internationally.

So far 730,000 individuals have died from the novel coronavirus, most of them in European countries and the United States of America.

Nearly 13 million people have recovered from the disease worldwide. The US has suffered the most casualties, with five million infections and 165,000 fatalities.

In Afghanistaninfo-icon also, the virus is spreading fast, with more than 37,000 people infected and 1,328 killed.  More than 26,000 people have recovered from the disease so far.
