Kabul, Tashkent to boost energy cooperation

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Uzbekistan and Afghanistaninfo-icon have agreed on expanding bilateral cooperation and ensuring economic growth and infrastructure development in the region.

The agreement came as delegates from the two sides held talks via a video conference, evincing their interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation, says a media report.

Interactions in trade, energy, transport, communications and logistics sectors, as well as implementation of important investment projects of regional significance were discussed.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hanif Atmar and senior Presidential Palace official Mohammad Shaker Kargar represented Afghanistan, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency.

The Uzbek team was led by headed by Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov and included other officials.

The two sides agreed on increased cooperation in the energy sector, continuation of interaction in organising the supply of electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan and development of appropriate infrastructure.

The infrastructure development including implementation of the project for construction of the Surkhan - Puli-Khumri power transmission line, the report said.

The parties noted the importance of ensuring Uzbekistan-Afghanistan connectivity through the development of transport corridors and the use of their transit potential.
