GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Residents of the Chamkani district in southeastern Paktia province say security situation has deteriorated in the town and it has worried local population.

Mohammad Rahim, a resident, said militants, who enter the district easily from across the Durand Lineinfo-icon, had started recruitment.

“The security situation had never been this deteriorated before. This district is a commercial area and it can put other areas at risk,” he remarked.

Delbar Afghan, another resident, also urged security and intelligence organs to control the situation.

Abdul Raoof was worried that some villages would be overrun by militants, saying the certain areas were more populated after Gardez City.

Police Chief Sultan Dawood Sultan said he was assessing the situation and would make a decision about it soon.

Sultan added: “The enemy is trying to deteriorate the security everywhere and mislead people by propagandas, but the security situation is under control and we are aware of the enemy’s movement and designs.”
