Facilitate Afghan peace drive, ANP asks Islamabad

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Awami National Party (ANP) has asked the Pakistaninfo-icon government to act as a friendly facilitator of the peace process in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

A senior leader of the Pakhtun nationalist party also called on major global powers to play a proactive role in bringing peace to the conflict-wracked country.

Haider Khan Hoti, central vice-president of the party and former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stoutly supported the outcome of the three-day Loya Jirgainfo-icon, which approved the release of the remaining prisoners.

The closure of Durand Lineinfo-icon and terrorist activities impeded cross-border trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, he told reporters after addressing party workers in Peshawar.

Certain forces were opposed to cordial and cooperative relations between the two neighbours, Hoti said, accusing those forces of seeking to deepen the distrust between Kabulinfo-icon and Islamabad.
