Ghazni residents rally against passengers’ looting, sexual abuse

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of southern Ghazni province on Tuesday protested against what they claimed armed robbers sexually abused three womeninfo-icon and extorted other passengers on the Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar highway.

The protestors closed the highway against traffic for few hours, alleging the robbers took away three women from passenger vehicles and sexually assaulted them on Monday night in Nani Bazaar area of Andar district,

Niamatullah, one of the protestors, armed robbers stopped passenger vehicles, looted the passengers and took the three women to a room in a nearby garden and sexually abused them.

Noorullah, another protestor, said that perpetrators of the sexual abuse should be punished.

Other protestors held similar views in this regard.

Wahidullah Juma, the governor’s spokesman, claimed Talibaninfo-icon militants looted the passengers. He said the sexual abuse was being investigated.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid alleged government forces looted the passengers. He also said the Taliban would investigate the matter of sexual abuse.
