KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok):The Afghanistaninfo-icon National Association of Journalists (ANAJ) on Monday asked the government to act on investigative reports by creating a mechanism in this regard.

Shoaib Fana, the ANAJ head, told media persons in Kabul that working on investigative reports was not an easy task, so the government should support media outlets working on investigative reports in the country.

He said within the past few months a number of media outlets, including Pajhwok Afghan News, published different types of investigative reports but the government was yet to take any step in this regard.

He urged the government to introduce those evolved in corruption to the judicial organs.

He said after a number of investigative reports were established by Pajhwok and Hasht-i-Subh daily, the Afghan government launched the Ombudsperson Office, but it did nothing so far.

He said people had been not informed about any mechanism through which the Ombudsperson Office works and such office should have a clear mechanism while following investigative reports.

He called for creation of a special institution in presence of media representatives in this regard.

He added that the government’s disregard for investigative reports showed it had no plans to fight corruption.

Einatullah Ziarmal, an independent journalist, told the gathering: “Although fighting corruption is the government’s job but the government ignores investigative reports as some government circles are involved in the menace.”

According to him, if the government really follows media reports in preventing corruption, the media is also ready to provide necessary assistance in this regard.
