8 killed, 14 wounded in Sarobi flooding

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least eight people have been killed and 14 others wounded in rain-induced floods in the Sarobi district of capital Kabul, officials said on Thursday.

Shah Mahmood Ibrahimi, the district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the flash floods hit Khwayandi, Shinwari and Shpoli villages late on Wednesday.

He said four people, including a woman, were killed, eight others wounded, 70 homes destroyed and farmlands damaged in Khwayandai village.

The floods also caused financial losses in other villages, the official said. The injured were evacuated to hospital and they are currently in stable condition.

But public healthinfo-icon official Kamal Nabizada said eight people died and 14 others were wounded as a result of flash floods in Sarobi district. The injured were evacuated to Kabul and Nangarhar hospitals.

Talibinfo-icon, a tribal elder, said the floods hit Mano, Chinar, Zeray Tangai, Goga Manda and Khwayandai villages and caused damages.

He said: “About 67 houses were swept away and 40 others damaged by the floods. One woman was killed in Khwayandai village.”

Nabiullah Pirkhel, chief of staff to the Kabul governor, promised the flood-affected people would get compensation soon. However, he did not provide details.

Asadullah Dawlatzai, the Laghman governor’s spokesman, said the Kabul-Jalalabad highway had been closed for traffic in Khak-i-Tunnel area.
