Delhi, Tehran discuss regional security, Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Iranian and Indian defence ministers have exchanged views on regional security issues and the situation in Afghanistaninfo-icon, the Defence Ministry in New Delhi said on Monday

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with his Iranian counterpart Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami in Tehran. Singh made a transit halt in the Iranian capital on his way back home from Russia.

“Had a very fruitful meeting with Iranian Defence Minister Hatami in Tehran. We discussed regional security issues, including Afghanistan, and matters of bilateral cooperation,” he tweeted on Monday.

The meeting took place in a cordial and warm atmosphere, with the ministers emphasising cultural, linguistic and civilisational links between India and Iran.

They discussed ways of boosting bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional security issues, including peace and stability in Afghanistan.

A day earlier, Singh voiced concern over the situation in the Persian Gulf and called for regional countries to resolve differences through dialogue based on mutual respect and sovereignty.
