FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The number of womeninfo-icon employees in government institutions has increased in northeastern Badakhshan province in recent years, a statement said on Thursday.

Currently, 17 percent of employees in government departments are women, but a small number held key posts compared to men, the provincial Department of Women Affairs said in the statement.

Despite growing insecurity, girls continued to go to school alongside boys and were able to complete up to bachelor’s level educationinfo-icon, the statement said.

Aleena Ghiyasi, Women Affairs Director, said in the past five years, the number of women employees surged by seven percent in government institutions, which she called as satisfactory.

She, however, said women presence in key posts and key departments, where they could do more for their rights and future, was discouraging and men still occupied majority of key posts.
