Afghanistan receives 4 fighter aircraft from US

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan Air Force (AAF) on Thursday received four A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from the United States of America.

During the handover ceremony, Defence Minister Gen. Asadullah Khalid appreciated security and financial assistance from the US and NATOinfo-icon/

The minister insisted on the continuation of international assistance until terrorism was eradicated from Afghanistaninfo-icon and the region at large.

Khalid hoped that the ongoing negotiations in the capital of Qatar between the government and the Talibaninfo-icon would lead to the establishment of sustainable peace.

Lt. Gen. John Deedrick Jr, the commanding general of CSTC-A, said: "The transfer of A-29 planes demonstrates the US and NATO's commitment to assist and support to ANDSF."

Lt. General. Abdul Fahim Ramin, the AAF commander, said: "The AAF' now has the capacity to plan and implement operations independently."

A-29 attack planes are compatible with Afghanistan’s geography and climate and are equipped with machine guns, rockets and laser-guided bombs.
