No compromise on gains of last 2 decades: Khalild

No compromise on gains of last 2 decades: Khalild

Sep 17, 2020 - 14:23

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The intensifying war amid peace talks suggests the Talibaninfo-icon may be trying to strengthen their position at the negotiating table, the acting defence minister said on Thursday.

Asadullah Khalild made the remarks at a ceremony here for the delivery of four new A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from the United States to the Afghan Air Force.

It would be a grave miscalculation on its part if the insurgent movement believed that it could grab power by force, the minister said.

NATOinfo-icon remains committed to the promise it has held out to the Afghan forces and the aircraft delivery is a message that the alliance will continue to cooperate with us until the insurgency is eradicated,” he added.

According to Khalild, the intensification of war by the Taliban amid intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha showed the militants were seeking to gain bargaining power.

But the security forces, who had not yet returned to an offensive posture, would not allow any deal that compromised achievements of the past two decades, he explained.

Fawad Aman, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD), said that the US-delivered aircraft would be used during operations by the security forces.
