SHARANA (Pajhwok): Deputy police chief for southeastern Paktika province was killed in a landmine explosion amid an ongoing operation on Saturday, an official said.

Tariq Arian, Ministry of Interior spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Col. Mohammad Asif Tokhi was travelling to Yayakhel district to join security forces conducting an operation when he came under attack.

Without giving further details, he said Tokhi was killed in the blast.

A security source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the blast took place in Khairkot district. He said a clash took place in which a number of Special Forces personnel and officers suffered casualties.
