South Korea’s Covid-19 aid to Afghanistan arrives

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The first batch of South Korea’s COVID-19-specific assistance to Afghanistaninfo-icon arrived at the Hamid Karzai International Airport on Saturday and the second batch is expected to arrive in the weeks ahead.

The diagnosis-related kits worth about 800,000 USD are part of the direct bilateral assistance worth one million USD from the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for the support of Afghan government’s efforts to rise above COVID-19.

The South Korean Embassy in Kabul in a statement said the bilateral assistance would make the total amount of the Korean government’s COVID-19-specific support for the Afghan people three million USD. The Korean government already made contributions worth two million USD in partnership with UNDP and WHO.

 “A friend in need is a friend indeed. Friendship and affection is conveyed not only in words but also in deeds,” said Zha Hyoung Ambassador of Korea.

He believed it was the Korean people who best understand the plights and suffering of the Afghan people. “I also believe in the resilience of the Afghan people, which has been remarkably demonstrated throughout history.”

The ambassador said he was confident that Afghanistan would overcome the daunting challenges of today as Koreans had been doing  and his country would continue to stand by Afghanistan in its great journey towards peace and prosperity
