30 rebels killed, 8 injured in Kunduz airstrike

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least 30 Talibaninfo-icon, including two commanders, have been killed and eight others wounded as a result of an airstrike in northern Kunduz province, the Ministry of Defence said on Sunday.

The insurgents attacked security forces’ positions in Nikapaye Sayed Ramazan area of Khanabad district on Saturday morning. But security personnel repulsed the attack, a statement from MoD said.

It added that 30 militants, including two commanders named Qari Abdul Razzaq and Maulviinfo-icon Abbas, were killed. Eight others, including commanders Faizani and Qari Ibrahim, were wounded in the operation.

Four vehicles, eight motorcycles and a large amount of weapons belonging to the rebels were destroyed in the airstrike. Based on initial reports, the security forces suffered no casualties.

According to the statement, the ministry received some reports regarding civilian casualties. The claims are being investigated.
